Approved by the Ministry of Education on December, 2016, the College of Dentistry was established on August 2017. Accordingly, the DDS and Master Programs of the Department of Dentistry, which were originally aligned under the College of Medicine, have been moved under the College of Dentistry. The education goal is to cultivate caring, excellent and responsible dentists and professionals with comprehensive knowledge and superb clinical skills.
The Department of Dentistry was founded in 1980 with a 6-year Doctor of Dental Surgery Program. The M.A. and Ph.D. Programs were established in 2007 and 2017 respectively. Academically, these programs provide both basic and clinical related advanced training courses. Students are encouraged to participate in research, international academic seminars, overseas dental internships, and domestic and foreign medical volunteer services in an effort to achieve holistic education.
To offer best education for future need and an up-to-date learning environment, a world class Pre-Clinical Simulation Training Center equipped with Germen made modern phantoms was newly remodeled 2017. The Asia Digital Dentistry Clinical Teaching Center equipped with navigation systems developed in Taiwan for both restorative and implant dentistry was also established in the spring of 2018. In addition, teachers are encouraged to provide teaching materials digitally which can be reached by the students easily without boundary.
Dental education focuses on the provision of technical clinical services. The two-year M.A. Program includes didactic course, clinical practice, and research project with dual-track advisor system to provide guidance from both basic and clinical disciplines. The curriculum planning helps students to develop abilities in independent thinking, problem identification and solving, and also academic research.
The educational philosophy of our Ph.D. Program is to educate students so that they possess both clinical expertise and research ability in basic biomedical topics. The Ph.D. Program focuses on oral cancer prevention and treatment, oral implant-based R&D, dental stem cell applications, and digital dentistry. Students are trained to become experts specializing in fields such as dental health materials, oral implants, oral engineering, oral microorganisms, and oral immunity.
Our M.A. Program in Oral Health Industry is based on the concept of a health industry chain, with curricula that include topics associated with biotechnology, biomedical materials, medical aesthetics, computer-aided designs, manufacturing and analyses (CAD/CAM/CAE), 3D printing technology, rapid 3D imaging technology, and clinical treatment. This enables cultivating world-class practitioners who are talented in performing research and developing innovative medical equipment for the oral health care industry, as well as those who are capable of developing products with clinical application potential.
